US 93, SOUTHBOUND RANCH ROAD
Construction is under way to widen US 93 Southbound Ranch Road, the largest Recovery Act project in the Arizona Department of Transportation’s Kingman District.
The project area is located 17 miles north of Wikieup. Improvements will include adding nearly two miles of two-lane southbound
roadway parallel to the existing US 93.
This project is part of a continuing effort to improve safety and capacity on the US 93 corridor by providing a four-lane divided highway between Wickenburg and the Hoover Dam. The first segment on South US 93, spanning 36 miles between Wikieup and Santa Maria, was completed in February 2008. US 93 Southbound Ranch Road will be the first construction project to begin along South US 93 this year.
The $5,857,065 project is scheduled to be complete in summer 2010
US 93, HOOVER DAM TO MILEPOST 17 US 93
The much anticipated $71.3 million project kicked off in January 2009. ADOT along with FNF Construction of Tempe, AZ will add two new travel lanes, creating a four-lane divided highway that will connect to the Arizona approach of the Hoover Dam Bypass, which is currently under construction. Both projects are set to be complete in late 2010.

Arizona’s First Bighorn Sheep Overpasses
Improvements to North US 93 afforded a unique wildlife conservation opportunity – a collaboration of state and federal agencies to protect the Black Mountain’s Desert Bighorn Sheep. Backed by funding from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and ADOT, the Arizona Game and Fish Department launched a research effort that used telemetry collars to track the movement of Desert Bighorn Sheep. Three years of data showed that the sheep cross near high Black Mountain ridgelines, primarily between mile posts (MP) 0 (Hoover Dam) and 17. Roadway expansion would potentially be a barrier, disrupting migration patterns and affecting herd sustainability. The innovative solution? Three wildlife overpasses – the first in Arizona and the lower 48 states – will be constructed at mile markers 3.3, 5.1, and 12.2.

New & Improved Trailheads and Overlooks
A new trailhead at milepost (MP) 4.1 and a new overlook at MP 13.5 will be built. Additionally, improvements will be made to upgrade the existing overlook at MP 12.7. Throughout construction, access will be provided to Lake Mead National Recreational Area and other unique environmental and cultural resources in the area.

Motorist Assistance Patrol
Need assistance on the road? Partnering together to ensure motorist safety, ADOT and the Department of Public Safety offer help to distressed motorists traveling on US 93 within selected construction areas when contractor is not working. Currently the Motorist Assist Patrol is stationed within the US 93 Hoover Dam to Milepost 17 project limits.

US 93, HOOVER DAM BYPASS PROJECT
Construction of the Colorado River Bridge is advancing with construction of the 1,060 foot twin-rib concrete arch. The Colorado River Bridge is the central portion of the Hoover Dam Bypass Project. Construction on the nearly 2,000 foot long bridge began in late January 2005 and the completion of the entire Hoover Dam Bypass Project is expected in June 2010. When completed, this signature bridge will span the Black Canyon (about 1,600 feet south of the Hoover Dam), connecting the Arizona and Nevada Approach highways nearly 900-feet above the Colorado River.
